It was founded in 1993[1] and has an affiliated ed-tech platform named AAFT Online. [2][3][4] Filmmaker Sandeep Marwah serves as the institution’s founder and president.[5][6][7]

History

[edit]

AAFT was founded in 1993 by Sandeep Marwah.[8] The institution is housed in Noida Film City, Uttar Pradesh, alongside the film studio Marwah Studios.

In 2018, Sandeep Marwah’s sons, Akshay Marwah and Mohit Marwah co-founded the affiliated educational institution AAFT University in Raipur, Central India.[9][10][8] At the time of its founding, AAFT University had formed partnerships with the USC School of Cinematic Arts and the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and offered similar classes to its predecessor in Uttar Pradesh.[10] AAFT University has since become officially recognized as a university by government organizations such as the University Grants Commission[8][11][12]

Mohit Marwah and Akshay Marwah also launched the affiliated edtech platform AAFT Online in 2021.[13][14]

AAFT has formed partnerships with other educational institutions such as Budapest Film School,[15] the USC School of Cinematic Arts,[16] the University of Cape Town,[16] and the St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television.[16]

Academics

[edit]

AAFT is primarily a film and performing arts school.[17][18] In addition to cinema, AAFT offers courses in media-related subjects such as music, photography, journalism and mass communication, and fashion design.[19][20]

At launch, AAFT Online offered many of the same courses as the main AAFT curriculum, such as media, journalism, cinema, and performing arts.[21] AAFT Online has also offered courses in subjects such as retail management[22][23] and healthcare.[24]

AAFT has provided scholarships to international students from Asia and Africa.[18]
