Aero is an American air carrier providing a jet service with direct, by-the-seat flights to destinations in North America.
For regulatory purposes, Aero is set up as public charter operator and does not directly operate aircraft. All flights within North America are operated by USAC Airways 695 LLC d/b/a Aero, a direct air carrier certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct operations under Part 135 of the U.S. Department of Transportation's regulations (14 CFR Part 135). This certification permits Aero to perform charter and on-demand flight services. Aero Technologies Inc., which markets and sells these flights, acts as an indirect air carrier under US-DOT Part 380.[1] In accordance with DOT regulations for public charters, passengers will be notified as soon as possible if the operating air carrier changes or is not one of the above-mentioned certified entities.
Aero charters 16-seat Embraer ERJ 135 regional jet operated by a wholly owned subsidiary USAC Airways 695 LLC and then resells seats on that aircraft to the public. Because charter operators have lower TSA screening requirements for passengers, the arrangement allows Aero to utilize fixed-based operator terminals, offering a more private jet-like experience for their customers.
History
[edit]Aero was conceived by Uber co-founder Garrett Camp to address frustrations with commercial air travel. Initially designed as a software platform to streamline private jet bookings, Aero evolved into a "semi-private" flight service, offering premium travel experiences that bridge the gap between private charters and first-class commercial flights.[2]
The airline first launched with flights between Mykonos and Ibiza, becoming the first carrier to provide direct service between these two vacation destinations. In 2021, Aero expanded to North America, establishing a private terminal at Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles. Aero now offers nonstop, year-round flights to Aspen and Los Cabos, along with seasonal service to Sun Valley.[2]
