Wouldn't it be great if these reading tests were applied to all of the writings in Wikipedia? Seems like it would provide a good quality control metric, and point out to some wikipedians where to focus their efforts (like this posting, for instance).

Many of these tests make this assertion for computer programs.

However, a dictionary (there are many that have been digitized with syllable information) gives you a syllable count automatically.

With advances in software and computer hardware, I'm suprized that readability tests haven't kept pace. Are there newer ones that are described in the academic literature?
