Observations

[edit]

Okay, I'm not insane like you think:

  • This isn't namespace polution, as these will aid in searching and accidental linking.
  • In any case where a page is subject to accidental linking, it should be monitored for it (Special:Whatlinkshere) and fixed. Having these redirects categorized makes it easier to do so.
  • I'm sure that many of these are future human-name disambiguation pages. If somebody (with a different background than mine) notices a surname that isn't as unique as I thought it was, he or she should feel free to change it into a dab page. I just created redirects for all the names I could think of which I considered unique.
  • This has other incidental benefits too. It makes it more difficult for an inexperienced newbie or vandal to create a (good-faith) duplicate page, or worse, patent nonsense or an attack page. And as libel of living persons is a major concern these days, having these titles on somebody's watchlist is a Good Thing. For a mild example, I noticed this while creating one particular redirect.

I plan to, using a bot, keep the active links to these at a minimum (changing them to piped links as needed) in case they do eventually become disambiguation pages. Having them categorized together makes this a much easier task, so I'd appreciate everybody's help in categorizing redirects of this type. — Feb. 19, '06 [20:53] <freakofnurxture|talk>
