Cebon, founded in 1997, is a family business from Algeria of SARL type, specialized in the production of food products under the brand El Mordjen créé par les algériens
History
[edit]As an SARL company,[1] based in Oran, this family business[2] was founded in 1997. It produced food products for pastry[3] under the brand El Mordjene,[1] such as spreads,[4][5][6] honey,[7] whipped cream,[8] food coloring,[9] vegetable fat,[10] powdered sugar,[11] and corn starch.[12]
Due to a viral trend on social media like TikTok,[13] initially through Algerian influencers and later those from the Algerian diaspora,[14] the company experienced a surge in demand for its spread products in 2024, which had been produced since 2021.[1] It was also tested by French influencers.[15] In France, where it was sold by select grocery stores and imported via the shuttle trade,[15][16] it quickly sold out.[17] This high demand drove up prices in France.[18]
Awards
[edit]The range of spreads was voted product of the year by a panel of Algerian consumers in 2022, 2023, and 2024.[1]
