Dalibor (Cyrillic script: Далибор) is primarily a male given name of Slavic origin, mostly in the Czech Republic. The name is popular in some West Slavic and South Slavic countries, such as Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its literal meaning is "fighting far away", and it is derived from the elements daleko ("far away") and boriti ("to fight"). The first part can also be derived from oddalovat ("to delay"), hence it can be also interpreted as "someone who delays/avoids fighting".[citation needed]
There is an eponymous opera by Bedřich Smetana, based on Slavonic mythology.[citation needed]
