Life and career

[edit]

Carson was born on 9 August 1960 in Bangor, County Down.[1][2] Prior to appearing on television, Carson had worked as a drama and literacy teacher before retiring.[3] She resides in Ansdell, a district of Lytham St Annes, Lancashire.[3] Carson is married and has three children, including actor Kerr Logan.[4][5]

In January 2024, Carson appeared as a contestant on the second series of the BBC series The Traitors.[6] Unbeknownst to their fellow contestants, Carson's son Ross was also participating in the series.[7] Carson said she applied for the show after watching the first series because her "children said she could never do something like [The Traitors].[8] She was chosen as a faithful and was murdered "in plain sight" by the traitors after drinking "poisoned chalice" which was a glass of fizzy rosé, during the seventh episode.[9] After which was a funeral procession, in which Carson was sealed inside a coffin before being eliminated.[10][11] Host Claudia Winkleman said she had wanted Carson to be a traitor.[12][13] Carson proved popular with viewers and was described as the "breakout star" of the series as well as being hailed a "gay icon".[14][15][16]

In September 2024, Carson appeared as a contestant on the nineteenth series of Celebrity MasterChef.[17] She competed in the fourth heat alongside Dominic Skinner, Mutya Buena, OJ Borg and Vito Coppola.[18] She was eliminated in the first round.[19]
