Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn (born 1972) is a corporate figure with extensive experience, having held several key positions in institutions such as Danajamin Nasional Berhad (which has merged with Malaysia Development Bank[1]) as chief executive officer, and Khazanah Nasional Berhad as Deputy Managing Director, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Permodalan Nasional Berhad before being appointed as the chief executive officer of the Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja effective 19 February 2024.[2]

Early life

He was born in Petaling Jaya and received his early education at Bukit Bintang Boys' Secondary School, and continued his education at The Malay College Kuala Kangsar, Perak. He then pursued further studies and obtained a Bachelor of Economics degree from Harvard University.

Career

After completing his education, Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn began his career at SBC Warburg (now UBS) from 1996 to 1998. He subsequently held a position at Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Berhad in 1999 before moving to CIMB in 2000. Between 2001 and 2008, he was with Symphony Life (formerly Bolton Berhad). From May 2009 to April 2014, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Danajamin Nasional Berhad.[3]

He joined Khazanah Nasional Berhad in May 2014 as Executive Director, Investments with coverage of Khazanah’s investments in Indonesia, ASEAN and the Financial Institutions Group sector. He is also Head of the Strategic Management Unit and was later appointed as Deputy Managing Director in 2018.[4] In July 2020, he advanced to President and Group Chief Executive of Permodalan Nasional Berhad.[5] As of 19 February 2024, he has assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at the Employees Provident Fund.[6]
