Guess Method is an indie-funk band formed in 2018 in Matunuck, Rhode Island. The band is known for blending elements of indie rock with funk, producing a unique sound that has gained them recognition across New England.
History
[edit]Formation and Early Success (2018)
[edit]After meeting at the University of Rhode Island, the members of Guess Method began performing at small campus events and open mics. One of their breakthrough moments occurred when they played at an open mic at a local dive bar called Proof. Their performance impressed the venue, and they were invited to become the house band.
Over the following weeks, the band steadily built a dedicated following, attracting more fans each time they performed. What began as small, intimate shows grew into packed weekly performances, with crowds lining up at the door to catch their energetic live sets. This grassroots success helped Guess Method gain momentum in the local music scene.

Style and Influence
[edit]Guess Method’s sound is heavily influenced by both classic funk bands and modern indie rock. With driving basslines, melodic guitar riffs, and brass elements from trumpet and saxophone, their music bridges the gap between danceable funk and introspective indie. Their ability to switch from high-energy performances to more laid-back grooves has made them a favorite in live music settings.
Performances and Reception
[edit]The band has played at numerous events and venues across New England. Notably, Guess Method performed at FirstNight Boston in both 2023 and 2024, one of Boston’s most prestigious New Year’s Eve celebrations. These performances bolstered their reputation in the regional music scene, solidifying them as a rising act to watch.
Discography
[edit]Although Guess Method has been active in live performances, their recorded output has largely been independent and self-produced. They frequently release singles and recordings from live sessions, capturing the raw energy of their performances.
