Deb Grant is an Irish DJ, BBC radio host and presenter currently broadcasting daily on BBC Radio 6 Music. Previously she presented shows for Jazz FM[1].

Grant was also professionally known under the DJ pseudonym of 'Anne Frankenstein' for many years, until reverting back to her birth name in early 2022.[2]

Career[edit]

Grant is a presenter on BBC Radio 6 Music[3], where she co-hosts the New Music Fix Daily show with Tom Ravenscroft[4], sharing and discussing new alternative music releases Monday to Thursday.[5] She also regularly deputises across the network, filling in for other presenters during the breakfast, mid morning and afternoon slots.[6]

Grant presented live TV coverage of Glastonbury Festival 2024 on BBC iPlayer alongside Huw Stephens and Jack Saunders (presenter).[7]

Grant has performed live DJ sets at major festivals such as Primavera Sound, Field Day, Green Man, Love Supreme, 6 Music Festival and numerous club nights in NYC.[8]

Alongside her club and radio work, Grant has been part of the judging committee for the Brit Awards,[9] hosted and compered many industry panels and events and writes a regular music column in the Big Issue.[10]

Grant appeared as a talking head in the 2024 feature length documentary film 'Getting It Back: The Story of Cymande' which follows the story of British funk pioneers Cymande.[11] Grant also hosted a live interview event with the band for the British Film Institute in London.[12]

Between 2017 - 2022, Grant hosted the Jazz FM (UK) weekday mid-morning show, which boasted the highest daytime ratings on the station. Grant also presented a weekly late night show called the Late Lab, an exploration of weird and wonderful music from psychedelia to spoken word, field recordings, library music, gospel, calypso and other treasures.[13]

After six years at Jazz FM, Grant stepped down from both of her shows to begin regular presenting for BBC Radio 6 Music.[14]

Early Life[edit]

Grant was born in Dublin, Ireland and began collecting records from an early age.[15] She started DJing at friend’s parties at 15 years old, eventually progressing to bars and clubs. At age 19 she moved to London to study music, where she continued to DJ regularly and began hosting radio shows for small independent local stations.[16]

Grant would eventually then go onto hold down residencies at landmark London venues such as The Jazz Cafe, Spiritland and The Social.[17]
