The Doctor of Behavioral Health Degree (DBH) is a professional doctorate that is focused on integrated physical and mental health care. It is currently offered by three institutions, the Cummings Graduate Institute of Behavioral Health Studies[1], Arizona State University[2] and Freed-Hardeman University[3].
The DBH degree is built on three pillars: Medical Literacy, Integrated Behavioral Health Interventions, and Entrepreneurship.[4]. Students must complete training in all three areas and complete a culminating project in order to be awarded the degree. The culminating project is an applied integrated care project, done in lieu of a dissertation, that demonstrates a students ability to innovate in the integrated care field and the ability to respond creatively to unmet healthcare needs.[5]
The degree was developed by Nick Cummings, Ph.D[6]. Cummings was a healthcare disruptor and a past president of the American Psychological Association.
