Draft:Dzing!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dzing! (originally called Désir de Cirque) is a perfume from L'Artisan Parfumeur created by French perfumer Olivia Giacobetti.

Creation and notes

[edit]

Giacobetti created the eau de toilette-strength fragrance in 1999.[1] It was originally called Désir de Cirque,[2] inspired by Paris's Cirque d'Hiver. L'Artisan Parfumeur lists its notes as.

Reception

[edit]

Giacobetti has been widely praised for the creation.[3][4] Discussing Dzing! in The New York Times, perfume critic Chandler Burr called the perfume "one of the most innovative, authentically strange scents of the past two decades", combining the various smells of sawdust, circus animals, caramel apples and more into "a comforting, subtly succulent mix."[5] Burr writes: "Dzing! plays subtle purity against subtle power; it's fresh without green (a trick that takes serious perfumer talent to pull off), sweet without sugar (ditto), warm and soft like a plank of newly sawed pine still warm from the blade."[6]

In Perfumes: The Guide, Luca Turin gave Dzing! five stars, writing, "Olivia Giacobetti is here at her imaginative, humorous best, and Dzing! is a masterpiece. Dzing! smells of paper," going on to explain that trees contain a polymer that when broken down over time—for instance, when paper ages—creates a byproduct closely relatedly to vanilla, "[w]hich is how divine providence has arranged for secondhand bookstores to smell like good-quality vanilla absolute, subliminally stoking a hunger for knowledge in all of us." He warned, "L'Artisan Parfumeur is, for reasons unknown, planning to discontinue this marvel, so stock up."[7] The company later brought the fragrance back into production, but discontinued it again in 2020.
