Biography

[Ekkehard Franz Knobelspies] grew up in a conservative, Catholic, entrepreneurial, and highly sports-oriented family in Radolfzell on Lake Constance. He is the great-grandson of August Kratt and is married to Margarete Knobelspies, née Pohlig, who is the great-great-granddaughter of Prof. [Julius Pohlig]. He is the proud father of two children. In his youth, Knobelspies was an avid tennis player and trained under renowned international coaches such as Boris Breskvar, Richard Schönborn, as well as Nick Bollettieri and Harry Hopman in Florida.

As the runner-up in the Baden Youth Championships and a finalist in the German International Championships (Sport Scheck Youth Cup), he participated in various tournaments as part of the ITF World Juniors Tour in Switzerland and Florida. Among others, he played against Boris Becker and Thomas Muster, who later both reached the number one spot in world tennis.

After completing his school education, he went to Paris and Valencia to improve his language skills through an exchange program. He then traveled to Houston, Texas, for a college tennis exchange at Houston Baptist University before returning to Germany to fulfil his military service at the Bundeswehr site in Pfullendorf.

Career

[Knobelspies began his professional career in international five-star hospitality. He completed training as a hotel manager at the Inter*Continental Hotel Düsseldorf. He left the hotel industry as a sales director at one of the Leading Hotels of the World, the Excelsior Hotel Ernst in Cologne.

He then joined Germany's leading event agency at the time, where he became the youngest project manager, organising live events for clients such as Deutsche Bank, Mercedes-Benz, and Coca-Cola, both domestically and internationally.

Subsequently, he moved to London as the Director of Central Europe for a leading brand communications agency under the WPP Group umbrella. Here, he managed FTSE100 clients including HSBC, Allianz, Jaguar Land Rover, British Airways, and many others.

Between 1998 and 2008, he also worked in brand and live communication as a managing director for various companies in Zurich, Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, and Cape Town.

Today, he serves as a non-executive director for the media company he founded, "World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants," and as a consultant for various companies in the fields of real estate, food and beverage, and hospitality.

His professional expertise also includes collaborations with family offices, ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNW), and A-list celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Countess Heidi Göess-Horten, and Alexander Chesterman. He is currently writing a book titled "So Rich and Yet So Poor," about his experiences which is expected to be published next year.

Monocle Magazine has described him as a multifaceted, successful, and versatile entrepreneur and personality.

In his private life he is committed to the preservation of old and endangered livestock breeds on a voluntary basis. As a passionate hunter and conservationist, he also advocates for the greatest possible biodiversity in both rural and urban areas. His motto is: we must eat what we want to protect.
