Fish Hoek High School is a public co-educational high school located in Fish Hoek. The school houses learners from grades 8 to 12 and is known for its strong community values and focus on learner involvement.

History

Fish Hoek High School was established in 1954. Initially housed in a temporary building, the school moved to a prefabricated structure and was officially declared a high school in 1958.

As the Fish Hoek community grew, so did the school. In 1985, the school moved to its current location and expanded to include a middle school. In 2007, Grade 7 students were reintegrated into Fish Hoek Primary School, leading to a merger of the middle and senior high schools in 2009.

Over the years, Fish Hoek High School has been known for its innovative educational practices, including adult education programs. With the support of parents and dedicated staff, the school has produced successful and well-rounded students who have made significant contributions to society. [1]

Academics

Fish Hoek High offers a wide range of academic subjects following the South African national curriculum. All learners are allocated English as their home language, and they choose between Afrikaans and IsiXhosa as their second additional language. They also choose between mathematics and mathematical literacy. In addition, the school offers 18 additional subjects to its FET learners providing both theoretical and technical subjects. [2]

Fish Hoek High School offers a wide range of extracurricular activities. The school is particularly known for its sports program, with many successful athletes in sports like badminton and softball. In total, the school offers 14 different sports.

The school is also committed to community service. Its tutoring program assists learners from Fish Hoek Primary School, and the Impact program organizes school-wide campaigns for various causes.

The school's culture department boasts several well-known teams, including the drama pupils who perform in local theatres and the Glee Club, renowned for their impressive performances. [3][4]
