The Fondazione Archivio Storico Liber Aureus is a non-profit organization founded in 2020. Its primary objective is the preservation and digitization of genealogies and historical documents of Italian noble families.^[1]

History

The Archivio Storico Liber Aureus was established in 1784 with the aim of collecting documents related to the genealogies of Italian noble families, including heraldic symbols and historical acts. For centuries, the archive has served as a reference resource for genealogists and historians. The foundation, created in 2020, undertook the digitization of the archive to ensure its accessibility and preservation.^[2]

Liber Aureus project

The LIBER AUREUS – Libro d'oro delle famiglie nobili e notabili 1784 is a digital platform that allows free access to genealogical records and historical documents of Italian noble families. The project also includes the creation of physical copies of the book, inspired by the Liber Aureus of Prüm, intended for major European universities.

Mission

The foundation's mission is to conserve historical documents, promote academic research on genealogy, and make valuable historical records accessible to the public. This goal is pursued through the use of advanced digital technologies and collaboration with academic institutions.

Events and Collaborations

In 2024, the foundation organized events in London and Boston to present the LIBER AUREUS project to an international audience of historians and genealogists. The official launch in Italy is scheduled for the end of 2024.
