At weekends, there are a number of syndicated specialist shows, including those produced by DJs Judge Jules and Roger Sanchez.

History

[edit]

Internet Station

[edit]

Frisk Radio initially started as an internet-only station, under the strapline "Non-Stop Dance Hits". The station broadcast dance music without presenters or advertising.

Studios

[edit]

The station acquired offices and studios at Landreth House, in Blyth, Northumberland

SS-DAB Launch

[edit]

The station launched on the Tynemouth & South Shields SS-DAB multiplex at 7am on Friday 10th December 2021 under the strapline "The Rhythm of the North East"

The first voice was presenter Andy G. The first show was "Andy & Steph's Rude Awakening" and the first track played was "Tell Me Something Good" by Ewan McVicar.

The station later expanded to Middlesbrough & Redcar, and to Darlington when the SS-DAB multiplexes for those areas launched in 2023.[2]

Smart Media Acquisition & 2024 Rebrand

[edit]

In February 2024, out of home operator Smart Outdoor Media acquired a stake in Frisk Radio Ltd.[3]

The logo was revised with a new font and uppercase lettering.

Frisk Radio own and operate their own cloud-based software platform (Vudio), which manages all areas of station management, including playout, voice-tracking, streaming, show-prep, content, music management, CMS, sales management, ad-scheduling and finances.[4]
