History
[edit]The western part of the sanctuary was once the Highland Stock Farm, where Winthrop Ward Chenery raised thoroughbred horses in the mid-19th century.[1]
Habitat's Georgian-style mansion was built in 1914.[2]
Land and trails

The bulk of the sanctuary is on the north side of Juniper Road.[3] A smaller parcel, with a trailhead on Somerset Street and Concord Avenue, includes Weeks Pond and Meadow.[4]
The Habitat trail system is part of the Western Greenway, a 12 mile loop of open space in Waltham, Belmont and Lexington.[5]
Nature center and programs

Habitat programs include bird-watching, a nature preschool, school vacation programs, and a volunteer program.[6]
The Habitat Nature Camp has been in operation since 1974.[7]
