Haydom Institute of Health Sciences started as a Pre- Nursing School in 1971 aiming at producing nurse assistant’s personnel who could assist in provision of health care to the patients. In 1988 the School started midwifery course and the name was drastically changed into Haydom Nurses and Midwifery Training School (HNMTS).

Located at Manyara region Tanzania, PO BOX 9001 MBULU - MANYARA

The School was upgraded in 1994 to offer Diploma in Nursing and the name was changed to Haydom School of Nursing (HSN). The school is using a Competence Based Educational Training (CBET) curriculum for NTA level 4 – 6 from the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly (MoHCDGEC) which is approved by National Council for Technical Education (NACTE). In 2008 the school applied to offer up-grading programme for enrolled nurses to TNMC, of which it was granted, thus the school also trains in-service programme.

Apart from the above development, ELCT Mbulu Diocese have continued to experience high demands of health workers, which also did not corresponds to the increasing number of patients attending in its health facilities and elsewhere in the country. Therefore, due to increasing number of people attending health services in the health facilities which are owned and managed by ELCT Mbulu Diocese and other Governmental and no Governmental health facilities, the Diocese has fore seen a need to expand its training base for the health workers.

As a result of this situation, ELCT MD in its Executive Council meeting held in Mbulu from 25-26th March 2015 unanimously agreed to establish new training departments to current Haydom School of Nursing (HSN) which is already registered under NACTE.
