Indian Railway Institute of Transport Management (IRITM)[2][3] is one of the Centralised Training Institute (CTI) of Indian Railways. It offers training in transport sector in the areas of Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Aviation, Ports, Shipping, Highways and Railways. The Institute was established to train the officers of Indian Railway Traffic Service IRTS in the various domains like Traffic Operations, Commercial and Safety. The institute expanded its scope to train the senior supervisors like Traffic Inspectors, Station Masters, Traffic Controllers and Safety Counsellors on the topics ranging from Operations, Business Development, Safety in Train Operations, Vigilance and Contract Management.
Overview
[edit]The foundation stone of the IRITM was laid down by the then Prime Minister of India Sh Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 31-Jan-2001. It started training the IRTS batches from 2003 till 2019. It trains all newly joined officers and in-service officers on various topics like Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Multi-Modal Tranport, PM Gati Shakti etc. IRITM also collaborated with Bangladesh Railways to train its staff.[4] The newly created Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) service started its foundation course at IRITM in the place of National Academy of Indian Railways(NAIR).[5]
Facilities
[edit]IRITM has a lush green 72 acre campus with a admin block, teaching block, hostels, mess and a sports complex. IRITM has 3 hostels with an aggregate capacity to handle 100 trainees. The mess is managed by the officer trainees and is capable of handling the requirement of Trainees.
IRITM has a fully functional sports complex with facilities of indoor sports like Badminton, Squash, Table Tennis, Snooker, Billiards, and Foosball. It has a fully functional gym and a 25m long swimming pool.
