Maldegem reached the round of 32 in the 2001–02 Belgian Cup after eliminating SV Zulte-Waregem.[4]
The logo of the club is very similar to the logo of the old Mexican club Monarcas Morelia, the Mexican club adopted the logo in 1999, but the club did not see a problem with the Monarcas Morelia shield, but years later Monarcas Morelia changed its name and shield due to its move to Mazatlán.[5]
