Kat Tatz

[edit]

Kat Tatz (born June 8th, 1962) is an American painter and self-taught artist. She is known for her surrealistic and imaginative creations. Her artwork has been featured on HGTV’s DIY to the Rescue and was showcased internationally at Art Space & Design in Canada, alongside other galleries across the United States.

In Las Vegas, where she was raised and currently resides— her art has been displayed at several prominent locations, including: The Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian, Tivoli Village, Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, Centennial Hospital, the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, and Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, where each artist was personally selected by the stadium's art director, renowned artist Michael Godard.[1]

She gained local and international recognition and became the first-ever winner of Park West Gallery's inaugural "Made in Vegas" artist competition in 2021,[2] where her paintings hung alongside masterpieces by Picasso, Rembrandt, Renoir, and other art legends at Park West’s Las Vegas location.

Early life and education

[edit]

Kat Tatz, raised in Las Vegas, where she still resides, discovered her passion for art at an early age, drawing inspiration from her family of artists. Her father and grandfather were painters and sculptors, while her mother crafted porcelain dolls. One of her earliest memories is of her father teaching her how to draw a portrait at the kitchen table. Tatz went on to study art at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and further honed her skills through formal training at various artist workshops across the country.[3]

Career

[edit]

Tatz's work is inspired by the aesthetic of her hometown, Las Vegas, and its entertainers, such as Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Wayne Newton, and the iconic showgirls. She works with a variety of mediums, including oils, acrylics, color pencils, and sculpture, and has over 25 years of experience.

Tatz owned Wonderland Gallery for several years, but when COVID-19 struck Las Vegas, coinciding with the end of her lease, she chose not to renew. Reflecting on the impact of the pandemic, Tatz emphasized the importance of art in society, noting that it serves as a historical record of current trends.[4]

In 2021, Tatz won the inaugural "Made in Vegas" art competition held by Park West Fine Art Museum & Gallery. Her art can be found at various locations in Las Vegas, including Park West Gallery inside the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace.

Personal life

Kat Tatz is married and has two sons. She continues to work from her studio or on-site, creating new works that showcase her signature style and techniques.
