Mary-Jane Sokhela is a South African former athlete and advocate for women's soccer. She is the founder of Durban Ladies.

Life

Sokhela started her sporting career as a javelin and shot-put athlete. Post athletics she moved on to soccer where she has a brief stint as a goalkeeper.

In 1990, she founded Durban Ladies as Umlazi Fast Eagles, one of the oldest women's soccer teams in South Africa.[1] The team was founded after growing social issues in the township of Umlazi including drug abuse and teenage pregnancy.
