Melfin Jenifer Pereira (born 28 August 2002) is a London-based filmmaker with Goan origins. She has made a name for herself through her captivating short films, particularly her debut Love Yourself First (2024), which has been showcased at various film festivals and has won over 20 awards.

Melfin's passion for storytelling emerged at a young age and naturally evolved into a love for filmmaking. She graduated with a First Class BA(Hons) degree in Film Production from the University for the Creative Arts at just 20 years old, marking the beginning of her journey into directing. To date, she has written five short films, directed nine short films, one documentary, and one music video. Recently, she has also ventured into directing spec commercials, adding three to her growing portfolio. At the age of 20, she became an award-winning director with her music video Thread of Fate (2024).

Early Life

Melfin Jenifer Pereira was born on 28 August 2002 in Goa, India. Her early years were influenced by the traditional Goan theater, Tiatre, which she enjoyed attending. Moving to London at the age of 10, Melfin experienced a sense of incompleteness and sought solace in the arts, music, and media. At 15, she discovered filmmaking, which felt like her true calling, inspiring her to pursue a career as a film director.

During her university years, Melfin explored various aspects of filmmaking to deepen her understanding of the art form. This exploration led her to develop an interest in the Art Department, where she unexpectedly took on the role of a Production Designer. She began working as a freelance production designer, which she describes as an "unusual path" toward her ultimate goal of becoming a top film director. Melfin embraces this journey, stating, "I'm going to enjoy my way to the top."

After earning her bachelor's degree in Film Production in 2023, Melfin worked as a production designer on several independent short films and feature films. Just a few weeks after graduating, she wrote and directed her first short film, realising her true passion lay in directing. Her debut, Love Yourself First (2024), quickly gained worldwide traction on the film festival circuit, earning her the title of 'Best Director.'

Building on the success of her debut, Melfin's queer sequel is set to make its launch on the festival circuit, propelled by the popularity of her original song Thread of Fate(2024), which she wrote for the sequel. Her latest work, Happy Anniversary(2025), is also gaining attention at festivals and bringing her additional accolades.

In addition to her filmmaking endeavours, Melfin founded the production company 8B8 Entertainment after graduating. Her goal with this venture is to provide a platform for women and filmmakers from diverse backgrounds, ensuring they have a voice in the industry.
