Riley So (born 2006) is a Canadian student currently attending the University of British Columbia (UBC). He was raised in Ottawa, Canada, and attended Ashbury College from grade 4 to 12. During his time at Ashbury, Riley was actively involved in various leadership roles and extracurricular activities. He gained some notoriety in 2020 for his involvement in online gaming communities.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Riley So was born in 2006 and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He has two siblings: a twin named Picabo and a sister named Jaime. His parents, Derek So and Judy Shiau, are both doctors. Riley attended Ashbury College, a private school in Ottawa, from grade 4 through 12.
School Leadership and Extracurricular Activities
[edit]While at Ashbury College, Riley So was known for his leadership qualities and involvement in school activities. He was a prefect, a prestigious student leadership role, and played a significant part in managing school affairs. Riley was also the head of multiple clubs, including the TEDx committee, where he led the organization of TEDx events at the school. He was the founder of the Business Club at Ashbury College, creating a platform for students to learn and engage in business-related activities.
Online Activities and Controversies
[edit]In 2020, Riley So became a prominent member of a Discord server where he sold game items for money. However, he was later accused of multiple scams totaling thousands of dollars and faced bans on several games for violations of terms of service. In response to these accusations, Riley made a public announcement, describing the claims as "slanderous and without evidence." Following the controversy, Riley left the Discord server and pivoted to starting an esports tournament company that organized online gaming tournaments.
