subtitleeditor (Subtitle Editor) is a subtitle editor for the GNU Linux and *BSD desktop environments.[1] It is a tool to create or edit subtitles in films and moving pictures. It is free and open-source software released under a GNU General Public License (GPL) version 3 or later.

Most subtitles of films available on the internet are created in .srt format, so it is easy to create or edit subtitles. Alternatively, plain text editors can be used with subtitleeditor. It also allows changing time duration, synchronizing time by scaling, and more. As integrated main window with GStreamer, it can play videos using the editor.[citation needed]
