Trevor Scott is the pen name of Scott F. Schmidt (born October 14, 1957). Scott is an American espionage thriller and mystery writer. He has written more than 65 novels.

Early Life

Scott was born in Duluth, Minnesota, and was one of nine children. He grew up in the small town of Carlton, Minnesota, graduating from Carlton High School in 1975. At age 16 he earned his Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, as well as the Sharpshooter award from the National Rifle Association.

At age 17, Scott joined the U.S. Navy as an aviation ordnanceman, where he spent four years working the flight deck of three aircraft carriers, including CVN-65 USS Enterprise and CV-42 USS FDR. He earned the rank of AO2. Scott graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth in 1983, with a B.A. in English. After college, Scott worked in the public relations department for Northland College in Wisconsin, and as a writer and copy editor at the Idaho Falls, Idaho daily newspaper Post Register.

Military

Scott was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force in 1986. He spent seven years as an officer, assigned to missile squadrons in Missouri and Germany, and in a B-52 squadron out of Michigan during the first Gulf War. Scott received numerous military decorations and awards, including the Air Force Commendation Medal (oak leaf cluster), the Air Force Achievement Medal, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (with two devices), Small Arms Expert Rifle, and Germany Army Schutzenschnur (Silver). As a commander, he rose to the rank of Captain.

Writing

Scott’s first novel, Fatal Network, was written as his graduate thesis at Northern Michigan University, where he earned his M.A. in Writing in 1993. Fatal Network was eventually published by a company that went out of business, so Scott self-published the book in 1998. In that same year, Scott started the publishing company Salvo Press. Over the next 15 years, Scott published more than a dozen authors. In 2013, Scott sold Salvo Press to New York publisher Start Media. Scott has published more than 65 novels in 15 countries.

His other series include the Karl Adams Espionage Thriller Series, the Max and Robin Kane Mystery Series, the Lake Superior Mystery Series, the Chad Hunter Series, the Tony Caruso Mystery Series, and the Keenan Fitzpatrick Mystery Series. He has also written a dozen other stand-alone novels.

Personal Life

Scott currently resides in Reno, Nevada. He has been a lifelong hunter and fisherman. He has traveled to all 50 states, all Canadian provinces, more than 100 countries, and to all seven continents. He has also sailed on every ocean in the Navy and on cruise ships. Scott has been married to his wife Paula for more than 40 years. His wife is a critical care nurse who ran two hospitals as a chief nurse. He has two grown sons, Andrew, a software engineer, and Trevor, former Air Force and currently a businessman with an MBA.
