Urban Diary is a non-profit organization in Hong Kong founded by The Oval Partnership. Urban Diary aims to record community stories and promote sustainable living by conducting interviews, historical research, and visual documentation to shape and restore the community's identity.

Objective

The organization hosts various community exhibitions, screenings, and publishes books, using videos to document Hong Kong's community stories.^[1] Its documentaries have been screened at the University of London, the National University of Singapore, and the University of Hong Kong. Its partners include Lantau Conservation Fund, the Architecture Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Wan Chai District Council, Southern District Council, the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Hong Kong, and Partnerships for Community Development.^[2]^[3]^[4]

Activity

In 2017, Aljazeera English interview described Urban Diary as a conservation group which "fights to save indigenous Hong Kong culture". In 2023, Urban Diary participated in the Singapore Night Festival organized by the National Heritage Board. The Ministry of Culture of Taiwan described Urban Diary's project as "a bridge between people and the community". In 2024, a China Central Television interview described Urban Diary's exhibition is a record of touching stories from local communities in Hong Kong.^[5]^[6]^[7]^[8]
