Summary

Description
English: Sikorsky's sole XPBS-1 photographed at Darwin, Northern Territory, prior to the first Japanese aerial attack on 19 February 1942. Visible in the background is the Australian steamship S.S. Zealandia which was sunk during that first raid. From an album compiled by Norman Frederick Townsend (Service No. S6005) who served in the Royal Australian Navy and was based at HMAS Melville from 12 February 1942 to 21 October 1942.
