George Barton (born 23 August 1934) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL).[2]

The Tallangatta & District Football League senior football best and fairest award was changed to the Barton Medal in 1977, after three times best and fairest winner, George Barton tragically passed away after a short battle with cancer.[3]

At the time of Barton's death, he was also a four time runner up in the Tallangatta & DFL best and fairest award, where he originally polled the same number of votes as the winners, but finished second in the award to the player who polled the most three votes, on the countback system.

In 2016, the Tallangatta & District Football League retrospectively awarded the late George Barton, with an additional four more Barton Medals, thus finishing up with an incredible seven senior football best and fairest awards/Barton Medals.

Brother of Colin Barton, who played with Geelong Football Club and Bill Barton who played with North Melbourne Football Club.
