Miss India International or Miss International India is a title given to the Indian woman who represents India in the Miss International,[1] an annual beauty pageant held in Japan. Miss Divine Beauty currently chooses the Indian representative for Miss International.[2]

History

[edit]

1960-1988: Eve's Weekly Miss India

[edit]

The first edition of Miss International was held in the year 1960, and a Miss India contest organised by Eve's Weekly magazine selected Iona Pinto as the first Miss India International.[3] She represented India at Miss International pageant held on 12 August 1960 at the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium in Long Beach, California, United States. There, Iona Pinto secured the spot of 1st runner-up, next to the winner Stella Márquez.[3]

India's representatives to the Miss International were initially selected by the Eve's Weekly Miss India contest, since its inception in 1960, until the year 1988.[4]

In 1989, Eve's Weekly's magazine publications ended, and hence they could not continue their pageant subsequently. There were no representatives from India at Miss International in 1989 and 1990.[4]

1991-2014: The Times Group

[edit]

Since the year 1991, Femina Miss India, owned by The Times Group sent Indian delegates to compete at Miss International, and was successful in producing two first runners-up and one second runner-up.[5] The last highest placement of Femina Miss India's representative at Miss International was achieved by Shonali Nagrani, who was crowned as the first runner-up in Miss International 2003.[6][7] The Times Group lost the franchise of Miss International in 2015. The last representative to Miss International by the Miss India Organization was Jhataleka Malhotra in 2014.[8][9]

2015, 2017-2022: Glamanand Supermodel India

[edit]

The Glamanand Group, owned by Nikhil Anand acquired the rights to send India's delegates to the Miss International in the year 2015.[10][11] The first edition of this pageant was held on 4 November 2015 at Courtyard Marriott Hotel, New Delhi.[12] Supriya Aiman became the first delegate to win the title of Glamanand Miss International India.[13] During the years 2015 and 2017–2022, Glamanand Supermodel India was responsible for the selection of Miss International India.[14][15][11]

2016: Perk Events Group

[edit]

Only during the year 2016, India's representative for Miss International was sent by Perk Events Group. Rewati Chetri, a northeast Indian beauty queen from the state of Assam, was crowned as Miss International India 2016 by this organisation.[16][17][18]

2023-present: Miss Divine Beauty

[edit]

The Divine Group acquired the rights to send India's delegates to Miss International in 2023.[19] Deepak Agarwal, the founder and CEO of Divine Group, serves as one of the National Directors.[20]
