Operation Tyre which is also known as Tyre explosion is the name of a suicide attack[5][6][7][8] in which the Israeli command headquarters located in the city of Tyre in south of Lebanon was attacked. This operation[9][10][11] was carried out on November 11, 1982[12][13][14][15] by an 18-year-old Lebanese named Ahmad Qasir. In this operation,[16][17][13][18] Ahmad Qasir drove his full of explosives car[19][20][21][22] towards the Israeli military inspection building in the city of Tyre and hit the first floor of the building at a high speed, which caused the explosion of the building. Following this explosion, 141 Israeli officers and soldiers were killed and 10 others were missing.[23]
Description of the event
At 7 o'clock in the morning of Thursday, November 11, 1982, an 18-year-old young boy named Ahmad Qasir drove a Peugeot 504 full of explosives towards the Israeli military inspection building in the city of Tyre located in south of Lebanon, and crashed his car into the wall of the first floor of the building at a high speed. The car with its driver Ahmad Qasir explodes and the building is severely damaged. This operation was a suicide attack. 71 Israeli officers and soldiers and Shin Bet operatives along with 14 to 27 Palestinian and Lebanese prisoners who were kept in the building were killed in this attack. Also, 27 Israelis and 28 Arabs were injured during the attack.[24][25][26][27][28]
