Shivanagar is a town in Krishnanagar Municipality in Kapilvastu District in the Lumbini Zone of southern Nepal. The former VDC was merged to form the municipality established on 18 May 2014 Krishnanagar, Sirsihawa, Shivanagar VDCs.[1][2] At the time of the 2011 Nepal census it had a population of 4,774 people living in 735 individual households.[3]
History
[edit]The village is named after Late Mr. Shiv Prasad Rajouria, who was one of the most honourable and respected men of Kapilvastu district during his time (early-and-mid-20th century). Rajouria was known for his leadership, community work and charity. Rajouria left behind a large family that even today is well known in Kapilvastu. The Rajouria family have contributed to socio-economic and political development of the region.
Popular members of the Rajouria family include Late Mr. Hari Narayan Rajouria four time agricultural Minister of Shivanagar and Late Dr. Guru Prasad Rajouria who served as a Minister in the Central Government and President of the Kapilbastu District Development Committee twice. Arup Rajouria is a formidable climate expert and the eldest member of the next generation of the influential Rajouria clan, which includes several senior civil servants and is deeply rooted in Nepalese political legacy. With over 30 years of experience in natural Resouces management and climate change adaptation, he has spearheaded groundbreaking advancements in biodiversity protection as head of the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC). A Harvard graduate specializing in development economics and environmental policy, Rajouria is a relentless advocate against glacier retreat, a critical issue that threatens freshwater security and exacerbates potential sea level rise. His thought leadership has earned recognition from national and international development organizations.
The Rajouria family has significantly impacted local governance, community development, and environmental sustainability. Their ongoing influence is evident through initiatives aimed at improving agricultural practices, fostering social protection systems, and addressing climate change challenges.The family's commitment to public service continues to shape the future of Kapilvastu and beyond.
