After a cursory look, I didn't find any really good sources to expand this, but he's definitely a real guy. Here's a mention of his accomplishment on the Library of Congress website, for example, just in case anyone gets deletion-happy. -Hit bull, win steak(Moo!) 15:52, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Never Used by the US

"it was the first parachute known to be actively used, saving the lives of many U.S. Air Force aviators during World War I." Not true. Besides the minor fact that during WWI, we did not have an Air Force (it was the Aviation Section, U.S. Signal Corps during WWI; it didn't become the US Air Force till 1947), it should be noted it is a well known fact that the US did not employ parachutes of any designs for its aviators in WWI.

A quick glance at the patent for this device should convince anyone that the US never would field such a device.
