Range??

[edit]

There is an error in the range for this gun: it is given as 22,092 m (48,220 yd), but 22,092 meters corresponds to 24,160 yards, and 48,220 yards to 44,092 meters. Anybody knows the correct range? I would guess the correct one is 44,092 meters, which is slightly further than the range of the 14"/50_caliber_railway_gun. --Evertw (talk) 07:45, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed the range error using Berhow's info. RobDuch (talk) 23:23, 7 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
What are the major edits we need to complete to make this page exceptional? I started to add references to the corresponding text above. Just started editing on Wikipedia and any insights would be very helpful. ThanksEvertwRobDuchChefmikesf (talk) 19:09, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the edits and input. I've been editing Wikipedia for four years and have yet to read a lot of the style articles, or even find out what the requirements for A-class or Good Articles are. Most of the US and UK battleship articles are A-class, I believe, you could check them for style input. I believe you have to have a cite for just about every sentence to get A-class, and get into a serious level of detail. I also believe the level of detail needed for A-class gun articles lies in the tech manuals that used to be in the basements of better libraries; fortunately, some of these have been digitized. However, all digital versions I've found of old manuals omit the fold-out illustrations, scanning them while still folded. Another issue with gun articles is finding sources for the gun's effectiveness, either on trials or in action. My only article that I know was assessed as B-class is Fort Armistead, and I can't tell the difference from the best of my other fort articles (see my user page for a list). If you don't make an effort to get it done, it can take years before someone will get around to reviewing your articles for B-class status. Personally, I've made no effort to get my articles reviewed, and rate all my new articles as Start-class because I don't believe in rating my own articles. Looking at this article some more, I see it needs a serious reference upgrade. Articles produced early in Wikipedia's history usually include references, but not inline cites. Also, the Berhow ref needs to be updated to 3rd Edition, and specific pages cited where appropriate. See 14-inch gun M1907 for a better referencing scheme. Does "gunners qrant" exist? Or is it a typo?

[edit]

The section "Sighting and fire control equipment" lists "M1 gunners qrant" - note the "q". The word does not seem to exist in English - is it a technical term, or a typo?
