After failing 1922 Vanderbilt Commodores football team last night, I noticed that this was still awaiting review. I decided to take a quick look at it to see if it had the same issues—overabundance of detail, erratic citation, and stylistic inconsistencies.
It does, so for consistency's sake, I am failing this one as well.
Some examples specific to this article:
- Per WP:OVER, there is really no need to wikify "mud".
- Is it really relevant to this nearly century-old football season that we learn in the intro that Vanderbilt's current law school is located on the site of the stadium where home games were played this season? It's relevant enough to be mentioned in the intros to the articles about the law school and the former stadium, yes, and perhaps in the body text of this article. But not the intro.
- The fifth graf of the intro discusses how some of the star football players were also on Vanderbilt's baseball team that season. First, intros should generally be no longer than four grafs to begin with; second, I don't see how that's relevant enough to the football season to go into the intro.
- Lastly, and most importantly, is it really necessary to reprint that entire speech? I do realize that it was made in 1921, so copyright isn't an issue here, but still ... there are plenty of editorial reasons we don't have to do this.
At least this article is shorter than the 1922 one, so it will be easier to fix. Daniel Case (talk) 16:53, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- As to your last point; it's his most famous speech ever made, and various sources have various accounts with some overlap, so it seemed interesting to include them all here for history's sake, but if one prefers a short sample with multiple ellipses it can surely be done.
