uniform in infobox

[edit]

Hi @MisterCake:

I reverted this edit which introduced an image of the uniform. Dying technology was not sufficiently advanced in this era, such that Washington wore something approaching navy blue in lieu of purple for the uniforms (not saying that purple cloth, shirts, etc didn't exist in the era). Beyond that, I will defer to whatever (B/W?) source material might be the inspiration, here. UW Dawgs (talk) 04:13, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@UW Dawgs: You might see my recent post about this on the WPCFB talk page. It's completely possible I got the colors wrong, and my artistic skills are not sufficient to do the pants and helmet particularly well, but I am convinced of the form presented (striped sleeves, rounded wings instead of friction stripes), and thought the colors likely. Sewanee and Northwestern wore purple after all. I will certainly defer to a fan though, and if you have a source for the navy blue I am interested. Here's a good one of Wildcat Wilson. Here is another. If you are interested, I can provide several more examples. I think this made me try and do it, since obviously the stripes were darker than the uniform, I inverted this artist's choice, though I grant it seems they neglected Alabama's friction stripes. However, for somehow they got the striped sleeves of UW right. Cake (talk) 04:39, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@MisterCake: I defer. The color issue in this article well-precedes me, lol. I've heard the accounts many times in many contexts re "navy blue," but we go by WP:RS -which I couldn't find would likely state something in the navy blue/dark purple range. The program has worn dark to med purple, so skewing towards darker seems ok since you're not going to grab hex from the 2016 media guide. UW Dawgs (talk) 01:32, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Check it out. Cake (talk) 01:53, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
