[edit]The following material was present on the 1995-96 that I have merged into this page, but doesn't fit with the standard format used for this set of articles. I have copied it here in case someone wishes to include it at a later date. Kcordina 11:34, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
Star Players
[edit]Experienced central defender Kevin Ball had a massive influence on Sunderland's Division One championship glory.
18-year-old striker Emile Heskey playing a big part in Leicester City's return to the Premiership.
Young defender Ben Thatcher built himself a good reputation at Millwall but was unable to save them from relegation to Division Two and was sold to Premiership side Wimbledon.
Young striker Peter Thorne was one of Swindon's most influencial players in their Division Two championship triumph.
Goalkeeper Jim Stannard conceded just 6 goals in 23 home league games for Gillingham as they ended their seven-year spell in the league's basement division.
Star Managers
[edit]Peter Reid had a great first full season with Sunderland as they were crowned Division One champions and won promotion to the Premiership, joined by Jim Smith's Derby County and Martin O'Neill's Leicester City.
Oxford fans finally had something to look forward to after Denis Smith mastermined their promotion to Division One.
Chris Kamara ended Bradford's six-year spell in the league's third tier as they won the Division Two playoffs.
Stan Ternent completed the first phase of a turn-around for Bury as they were promoted to Division Two.
Neil Warnock earned his fifth promotion in ten seasons as he guided Plymouth Argyle to Division Three playoff glory.
Loss of a UEFA Cup place
[edit]I can't see any mention of why only 3 clubs qualified for the following seasons UEFA Cup. I did some investigation and England lost a place due to Tottenham & Wimbledon fielding understrength sides in the Intertoto Cup, the Independent reported it here:
