Accuracy of the title: 2015 West African offensive

[edit]

According to the BBC (March 8, 2015) these three countries are helping Nigerian troops in the battle against the Boko Haram insurgents: Niger, Chad and Cameroon. Chad and Cameroon are not considered West African countries, at least not in Wikipedia. The vast majority of the countries of West Africa are not involved. None of the headers of the listed references seem to use the term "West African offensive". Can we find a more accurate title? Perhaps: 2015 Offensive by Anti-Boko Haram coalition, or 2015 Anti-Boko Haram offensive or military action? Ekem (talk) 18:16, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I did struggle to find a good title. Almost all offensives on Wikipedia are classified by where they took place rather than who participated or who was targeted. Since fighting has been both in (northeastern) Nigeria and (western) Cameroon, I didn't have a good term to describe the location and went with "Western Africa". Maybe just "Northeastern Nigeria" would work even with the spill over into Cameroon, or maybe we should make an exception to the usual pattern and do something like "2015 Counter-insurgency against Boko Haram" or your "2015 Anti-Boko Haram offensive". Hopefully a couple more editors will chime in to help come up with a good title - I am open to anything. --ThaddeusB (talk) 20:55, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Either one would be fine, also "2015 Military actions against Boko Haram" might do. Other editors may have further suggestions. Ekem (talk) 00:38, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
