Too many templates

[edit]

The article is in the hidden Category:Pages where template include size is exceeded because it contains too many templates. A fix is needed. One option would be to split the article but another more radical approach might be better. That would involve removing all the flag templates, or possibly replacing them in batches, using subst. I suspect using subst would make the wikitext too large and ugly for maintenance. Omitting stuff might be the only viable solution (apart from splitting). @Johnuniq: I have split off the by-month section to 2018 in sports by month. I intend to do the same with 2019 in sports and a future page 2019 in sports by month. See multiple discussions over the last year about this "page too big" problem in Talk:2019 in sports. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 01:22, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Recommend putting selected events in "Calendar by month" section

[edit]

I recommend putting only World Cup, Olypics, or similar "world championship" international competitions in this section, as examples. The link to the new main article is where the complete list should be. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 01:24, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
