Are all the headshots necessary?

I feel like prose might be better. David O. Johnson (talk) 05:19, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

Nominee

Is it wise that this article assumes that Donald Trump will be the nominee. I know that its the most likely outcome, but I think this article may be a bit too presumptuous (Aricmfergie (talk) 04:28, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

Nikki Haley

Now that Nikki Haley has announced her campaign, should we remove her from this page for the time-being? Mtobar2002 (talk) 23:51, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

I think it would be wise to keep her in there, until either A.) She wins the primaries or B.) She declines the offer of Vice President from any presidential candidate (should she withdraw from the primaries)HistorianL (talk) 00:12, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

Tags for who could be who's running mate

I was thinking of something like a little note/tag next to the name of potential running mates of who could be who's running mate so for like Suarez, a tag next for him name showing him as a potential running mate for Haley would create less confusion. HurricaneKappa (talk) 00:50, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

Yes, this would definetely improve the page. 2806:103E:D:EBAF:253A:8F4:759A:CA95 (talk) 22:57, 18 June 2023 (UTC)

Why is this a draft?

This is important, so no need to be a draft. SmashingThreePlates (talk) 11:54, 5 February 2024 (UTC)

Trump's children

With Trump being most likely the presidential nominee. I'd recommend removing his children from the list. GoodDay (talk) 00:14, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

Former Candidates declining

Ramaswamy and Desantis were both listed under "Declined" due to comments they made during their Presidential runs. Seeing as there wouldn't be much reason to publicly say you'd want to be Vice President while running for President comments like those shouldn't result in candidate being under declined. They should only be added if they have declined after suspending their campaign TheFellaVB (talk) 01:22, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

Agree it’s clear that ramaswamy wants the VP spot 2600:8801:1187:7F00:141E:692E:B241:2472 (talk) 23:20, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

Image too big in edit

I changed Ramaswamy's position to "during the primary" but the image of his face is too big. Requesting someone to fix. Rc2barrington (talk) 22:13, 19 March 2024 (UTC)

It's fixed.David O. Johnson (talk) 23:33, 19 March 2024 (UTC)

Ramaswamy status

Rc2barrington, can you explain your reversion of my edit here: [1]? Ramaswamy doesn't belong in the "Declined to be considered" section, since it's not Ramaswamy ruling it out, but Trump. David O. Johnson (talk) 21:32, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

Shortlist (media speculation) will change each frequently, may as well make separate sections (for each month) based on how events unfold until one is chosen.

This will prevent the shortlist and media speculation sections from clashing. For instance, Marco Rubio[1] was announced as a potential VP by NBC today, but it failed to substantiate if he was part of the "official" shortlist (if there is a comprehensive one set in stone). It also announced Carson was part of the shortlist; both of whom are listed as media speculative.

One source will not have all the answers. Dividing the "shortlist" section into separate sections (or even subsections) based on time measurement will display how the VP pick changes or narrows within the following months of the campaign, and is definitely of encyclopedic value. Also, it will prevent overlapping and conflicting edits. Pillow da Don (talk) 03:44, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

Huckabee Sanders

It's pretty straightforward to me that she indicated [2] that she isn't interested in running for president. David O. Johnson (talk) 03:05, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Consistency please

Helloe @David O. Johnson:. We don't lower-case Vice President of the United States & President of the United States, in the intro. WP:JOBTITLES doesn't apply, as neither office is being preceded by either "the" or "#th". Note the intros in the other veep selection pages. GoodDay (talk) 16:21, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Additional Candidates

Have seen mentioned with Fox News and elsewhere that Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, Fox News contributor and former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany and former Michigan Governor Rick Snyder are under consideration. Where and how to add? BezosFanYo (talk) 18:24, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

Kristi Noem

What is Kristi Noem doing in "Ruled out by Trump"? I tried googling this, and not once have I found a news article where Trump says he doesn't want Noem as his running mate. Plankton5165 (talk) 22:20, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Specifically this article from Puck, which reads, "a source close to Trump told me that since landing on the states rights position, he has explicitly changed his V.P. calculus, removing from his shortlist governors from states without exceptions for abortion in cases of rape or incest, or any state with a so-called “heartbeat bill” before 10 weeks" and "'She has the most extreme positions, which is why some have never taken her seriously,' said a source familiar with the former president’s list"
Personally, I find it a bit dubious to include the claim that she is completely off the shortlist from someone only identified as "a source close to Trump", and not Trump himself. That source could be Melania Trump or it could be an ally of the other VP contenders (this article is quite positive of Rubio and Vance, for example).
Something also to note is the article specifically "disqualifies" other VP contenders (Sanders and Burgum) but only Noem is listed as "Ruled Out by Trump' by this wiki page. Weird. DaliaDippolito (talk) 09:49, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
Actually, I take this back. More reports that she's off the list are coming out. Especially after everyone found out she shot a puppy to death. DaliaDippolito (talk) 23:32, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
Seems she's out according to The Economist https://www.economist.com/united-states/2024/05/09/how-kristi-noem-missed-her-shot-to-be-vice-president . Is Puck (magazine) considered WP:RS? Certain conflicting reports are tough given conflicting reports from different insiders. I'm moving her back down for now. If a majority of credible sources claim she's under consideration, then maybe move her up a bit. BezosFanYo (talk) 14:37, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

Haggerty and Salazar

I tried adding Haggerty and Salazar, but I’m bad at this and it would cooperate so if someone could do that, that would be great!

They've been added. Thanks, David O. Johnson (talk) 19:44, 1 June 2024 (UTC)

Should the "reported shortlist" section be trimmed/removed?

Most of these names are already in the "speculative" name list, and may as well fall under the "media speculation" section. It bloats the article if anything, and it seems like WP:CRYSTALBALL. 99.47.167.16 (talk) 01:56, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Vivek

Vivek is in both the reported shortlist and Ruled out by Trump sections. It’s not very consistent and I’m pretty sure he *has* been ruled out in favor of a possible cabinet position 2603:8000:9000:24AD:E45F:A174:5A23:9070 (talk) 12:32, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

He was ruled out and then removed from the ruled out section for a while last month and now is back in the ruled out section. He just keeps jumping as the media reports different realities. Alexysun (talk) 03:34, 16 June 2024 (UTC)

What is Hypothetical polling in the Opinion polling section?

What is Hypothetical polling in the Opinion polling section? Alexysun (talk) 03:35, 16 June 2024 (UTC)

The hypothetical part of it is that Trump is presumed to be the nominee in the poll. David O. Johnson (talk) 03:54, 16 June 2024 (UTC)

12th amendment

Shouldn't we mention that Trump would merely need to change his state residency, if he chose Rubio? GoodDay (talk) 21:12, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Format of the article

Why is the shortlist and finalists at the bottom? That's the most significant information and historically it's always been at the top. TheFellaVB (talk) 05:37, 28 June 2024 (UTC)

I've adjusted the ordering. David O. Johnson (talk) 19:09, 28 June 2024 (UTC)

Endorsements for VP?

I’ve noticed quite a few posts and articles of certain high up people saying they’d prefer a certain candidate over the other for VP, should we add endorsements? Los Pobre (talk) 18:00, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
