Requested move

[edit]

All of the others (1st United States Congress through 113th United States Congress) have long since been renamed with the consensus of the Wikipedia community. I suspect that the renamers found these articles hard to move and gave up.—Markles 11:07, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Longest filibuster?

[edit]

There seems to be an error in facts on the longest filibuster in Senate history until 1964. In the wiki article filibuster, Senator Strom Thurmond is identified for setting a record in 1957 by filibustering the Civil Rights Act of 1957 for 24 hours and 18 minutes. However, in this article Senator Byrd is identified with a lesser record in 1964. - Mitchumch 17:20, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The filibuster for CRA-1964 was the longest in Senate history, lasting 73 days. Thurmond's record, made during the filibuster for CRA-1957, is for the longest single speech during a filibuster. The article as it stood before this note was deleted was incorrect, but this filibuster was certainly a "major event", so I have restored it, with accurate wording. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JPMcGrath (talkcontribs) 20:06, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
