Holy Christ, how is October Sky not on this list?? Just saying. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.172.226.48 (talk) 16:41, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
Some fool who moderates this page keeps changing the Gandhi listing to some obscure 1953 Gandhi film that no one has ever heard of. Obviously the correct film is the 1982 Best Picture starring Ben Kingsley and directed by Richard Attenborough. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.205.202.73 (talk) 03:07, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

OK I see the note above now. The AFI website has a mistake then. I saw the original airing of this special on TV back in the day. The correct movie is the one we've all heard and seen. It would have been a big deal at the time if you were watching this special and they picked an obscure documentary to highlight on the list let alone that high. Also if you look at this list of the 100 winning films, they clearly identify the 1982 Gandhi. https://prdaficalmjediwestussa.blob.core.windows.net/images/2019/08/cheers100.pdf Do you really think they selected this obscure 1953 documentary? Get off your high horse and recognize reality. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.205.202.73 (talk) 01:45, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
HELLO? Stop undoing the Gandhi change. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.205.202.73 (talk) 01:37, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

Gandhi
[edit]Regarding film #29 on this list, AFI's web page here does show Mahatma Gandhi: 20th Century Prophet (1953), which honestly was weird to me in the first place. So looking at secondary sources writing about AFI's list, it appears that RogerEbert.com here and Filmsite.org here both identify Gandhi (1982). So the IP editor is right to make this change. Pinging Materialscientist to clarify this matter. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 02:53, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
Also, I went ahead and emailed AFI to see if they can fix this. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 02:58, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
- They probably were correct about which film was #29 on the list (I also emailed AFI), but they still deserved the ban. They provided no citations and their last edit summary was "fuck you". Not okay. -drt1245 (talk) 03:46, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
Got an email response back, "Thank you for reaching out. We've actually caught the error, but it takes a short while for the website to update. It should soon be replaced with the correct Richard Attenborough film from 1982. Thank you for your patience, and I hope you enjoy revisiting the 100 Years...100 Cheers list." So the primary source will be correct once more soon. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 15:28, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
I apologize for being rude before but was so flabbergasted at the blatant disregard for an obvious correction. I also emailed AFI and got a similar reply that they would revise it soon. But you should not have relied on that weird ballot at the expense of AFI's own website's actual listing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.205.202.73 (talk) 03:25, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
NOTE: The web page has still not been corrected. I just emailed the AFI person again about this. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 14:19, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
