Redirect to the AK-47 article?
[edit]I thought it might be more appropriate considering the AKM (and folding stock variant the AKMS and AKM clones) is the most widely known (although usually incorrectly by the name of the previous and initial Kalashnikov service assault rifle, the AK-47, but I'm trying to fix this) firearm ever, and most used and produced firearm of all time, leaving out the Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 (which is the champion for special reasons). Because of all this the AKM has had and will continue to have an incredible impact on history.
It kind of seems to me like considering the above, it may not be entirely necessary to redirect people to a disambiguation page because of an acronym (one that Google seemed to find only two results other than Wikipedia where it was used in reference to the museum) for a museum that is apparently still in the planning stages. My opinion on this is probably biased though, and since I'm not exactly really into museums and not Canadian or Muslim it's quite possible that many more people are aware (or will become aware) of the acronym "AKM" for Aga Khan Museum than I am assuming are. And even if my perception of the notability of the Aga Khan Museum is accurate, it's also quite possible (as I am still starting out as far as editing Wikipedia articles and the rules concerning how to do so) that the status quo of having the "AKM" Wikipedia article direct to a disambiguation page rather than directly to the article about the firearm is 100% exactly how it should be done according to Wikipedia policy, and that my suggestion of redirecting it to the AK-47 article is completely inappropriate. I'm sure that's the way it's going to turn out. ;)
I would greatly appreciate it if someone with more Wikipedia experience would look into this. Thanks in advance! --Skyler Streng 20:41, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- I understand your perspective on this. The museum is in the planning stages, but it has received significant news coverage and endorsement and is gaining notability in Canada and abroad. Also, my experience has shown that there aren't many articles out there that are able to maintain a monopoly over their acronyms for very long - inevitably, every acronym is shared. Therefore, expect the AKM disambiguation page to grow over time. -- Aylahs (talk) 21:20, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Alright, fair enough, this was the outcome I was expecting but I thought I'd give it a shot and ask. Thank you very much for your quick response, much appreciated! :) --Skyler Streng 01:10, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
