[edit]This article contradicts the claim made in the article Pope_Gregory_XV, currently featured on the front page, that Pope Gregory XV was the last pope to be elected by acclamation. Burschik 12:18, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- Clement X says he wasn't elected by acclamation despite the assertions of this article; Innocent XI is a bit less clear but suggests he was some form of compromise candidate. I would be inclined to go with those over this text, which is present in the original version taken from the Catholic Encyclopedia and is ninety years old. Historical research moves on, and those are presented mostly as anecdotes...
- Is there a more recent edition of the Catholic Encyclopedia, or something comparable, to compare it to? Shimgray | talk | 15:11, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
