This test is not completely obsolete. It finds use in situations of small town low volume where the Bravo or similar capsules are in short supply. The supplier will only sell so many or so few and several of these expensive items will expire. The use of weak HCl solutions is a practical and cost effective way of arriving at the same answer. Hi-tech isn't always better.
