Unsourced non-NPOV paragraph

[edit]

"He refused to apologise for the actions of the FSA which had overseen the near total collapse of around half Britain's banks and accepted that his agency had foreseen the likely consequences for Lloyds Bank of its politically contrived merger with the ailing HBOS arranged in September 2008. He justified these omissions on the grounds of only having arrived at the Agency a few months before. Incredibly in view of the then raging controversy over bonuses for the struggling Lloyds Bank employees he sought to justify upcoming bonuses averaging some 15 per cent for his approximate 2,500 staff.[5]"

That doesn't really sound very neutral to me, and as the link is broken I removed it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 163.1.143.155 (talk) 15:48, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK obviously peterlewis doesn't agree... but "Incredibly" there is clearly opinion, and I'm not sure about the tone and accuracy of "He refused to apologise" and "politically contrived merger". Moreover the FSA isn't an agency, and I find it hard to believe that his only justification was that he'd only been in the job a few months. Finally, I don't think a link to a non-existent blogspot page counts as a source. So I'm deleting it again for the time being. 163.1.143.155 (talk) 01:01, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Got a working link now. I made the following changes:

"Refused" changed to "did not": "refused" suggests Andrew Marr asked if he would apologise and he said no. In fact he just ducked the question.

"Around half" changed to "several major": no source for "around half" and I'm not convinced that's true.

"Agency" changed to "organisation": the FSA isn't an agency.

Removed "politically contrived": not supported by the source, controversial, not a neutral tone.

Removed "He justified these omissions on the grounds of only having arrived at the Agency a few months before." because that's just not true. He mentioned it in passing twice, it wasn't part of the justification and each time he gave other more compelling explanations.

"Incredibly in view of" changed to "Despite": Oh come on you can't possibly think that's a neutral tone

Added a quote explaining how he sought to justify those bonuses, as I think that's relevant and necessary to be neutral.163.1.143.155 (talk) 02:52, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What... More information?

Who is this guy? I read several articles and essays of him - and he´s brilliant. It would be interesting to know, whether he attended more universities than Cambridge or where else this guy soaked all this information up. It´s:P=NP (talk) 21:42, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
