"Mariah" vs. "Carey"

[edit]

I notice that Mel keeps changing the "Mariah-only" version of the song to "Carey-only." That is NOT the official name of the Sony mix, which deletes Westlife's vocals and leaves Carey duetting to an instrumental track only. Musiclover 10:05, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies if I got that wrong. There are two facts behind my action: first, these articles use Christian names throughout, and I've been changing them to proper Wikipedia (and just generally non-fan-gush) style; secondly, there's confusion that I've come across elsewhere on the part of some editors as to what constitutes a title and what a description. On the latter point, how can one tell which is which? It can't be that record companies and music journalists print them with initial capitals, because they do all sorts of weird typographical and syntactical things that we shouldn't follow. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:36, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I understand. I've been changing the format to proper Wikipedia style whenever I've come across it in Carey's singles chronology. Now, all that's needed is for someone to remove her Christian name from every article written by gushing fans. I'm surprised no one has referenced her as "Mimi" in the articles. "Against All Odds" vs. "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)"

[edit]

Even in countries where the album version was released as a single, it was only released as "Against All Odds," if I'm not mistaken. It never had the parenthetical "Take a Look at Me Now" attached to the title. Who wants to move and redirect? --Musiclover 04:21, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Keep it the way it is. The original song is named Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now) and she didnt drop the subtitle, when she covered it. The subtitle may not have been on the cover due to space restrictions, but the song did not change its title OmegaWikipedia 05:11, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?

[edit]

I think the articles should be left as is, with maybe a reference to the fact there is another version with the same name. They are two different songs after all. Kerowyn 00:57, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. In My view the song shouldn't have been made, It just gives some of the people who have never heard of Collins this dilussion that he just sang this song, thus fuelling the Phil Collins stereotype >_< Skully Collins 09:16, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now) (1984 song)Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now) – There's no need to disambiguate now, since all versions of the song are covered in one article. Extraordinary Machine 19:28, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Second infobox removed

[edit]

I'm putting the second infobox (the one for the Mariah/Westlife version) here because at the moment it makes the article look untidy and squashes the text. If the article is expanded, it may be appropriate to put it back in. Extraordinary Machine 19:31, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Against All Odds"
Song

Either one thing or the other, I guess

[edit]

From the text itself: "Originally titled "How Can You Just Sit There?", the song was initially from the sessions for Collins' debut solo album Face Value (1981)", Just a few paragraphs later:"Against All Odds" was created explicitly for the movie." If Collins had already written the song in 1981,even under a different name, how could it have been made explicitly for a movie that wouldn't be thought of until three years later? Oscar nominees invited to perform

[edit]

The article previously stated that when "Against All Odds" was nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song, "Collins was the only Oscar-nominee in the category not invited to sing his song on stage". However, this is misleading. Deniece Williams, the original artist who sang "Let's Hear It for the Boy", performed the song at the Oscars, but she wasn't the Oscar nominee because she didn't write the song -- Tom Snow and Dean Pitchford did, and I don't think they were invited to perform at the Oscars. Furthermore, as far as I can find, Kenny Loggins didn't perform "Footloose" (even though he was the co-writer of the song with Pitchford), nor did Stevie Wonder perform "I Just Called to Say I Love You" -- they might have been invited to perform, but they didn't actually perform. As far as I can tell, only one of the songs was performed on stage by the Oscar-nominated songwriter that year ("Ghostbusters"). --Metropolitan90 (talk) 03:40, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
