Usefulness

[edit]

As it stands, all the access points and details comprise the bulk of the article, but will readers really be looking for GPS coordinates to get on the trail? This information is also a bit dated. I worry about this page, but I'll leave it alone for the time being. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 06:56, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm keeping an eye on the page; if there are changes to the trail status I'll update it. I agree that coordinates should not be the majority of the page; however, I have personally found them useful on several occasions. I would much rather see the article get improved and lengthened - more history, photographs, and a quality map are all things I may be able to add eventually. If you can produce a map from appropriate open-source content then I'll gladly take a useful map or two while pushing the GPS coordinates and specifics to another page if possible. Simply put, it is pretty much OR that these coordinates represent public access sites. While they are not wrong, its a verification nightmare of sorts. Good articles on these parks have come across a rather dubious mention of WP:NOTGUIDE, but still I cannot find any equivalent that would detail a complete record of access points. Though US Roads seems to be just fine in listing intersections... but that's a different matter... making the split matter all the more concerning. I just don't want to lose any data either... KML Update

[edit]

The KML file attached to this page is outdated due to the opening of the segment in Windham, will one of the Template editors fix this--JJBers (talk) 05:53, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've added that new segment, as well as the Alden Road segment which should be having its official opening soon. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 16:31, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Map

[edit]

I know that we have a KML of the trail, but I believe that we really need to a map made for this, or release a map from the CT DOT with the proper copyright tags.--JJBers (talk) 13:54, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Even better, you can learn to make one yourself - there any many Wikipedia articles that need quality maps, and very few users that make them. I make some myself but I'm rarely able to due to time constraints. Some resources: QGIS is a completely free and very powerful digital mapping software, and has an active community that makes getting started easier. RIGIS has just about all the data files you would need to make the map.
@JJBers: Please note that I've deleted the map you uploaded for the O'Neill Bike Path - there was no evidence that the creator released it under the claimed license. If there is evidence that they have done so - for example, a line of text on their website, or they send an email to OTRS to release under the license - then it can be undeleted.
