Prod tag "Never played for or managed a club in a fully professional league"?

[edit]

This prod/NN tag is not correct on all counts. Mathews clearly passes WP:ATHLETE, as current manager for Cork City F.C. (a professional club in the top flight league of the Football Association of Ireland.) And as a player, Mathew's played with several of the league's premier division sides. Actually he clearly fails it. The Irish top division is not fully professional, which is what the criteria demands. Could you reinstate the prod please? пﮟოьεԻ 57 18:37, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Per my note on my talkpage, I am at a loss to explain your tagging of this article. Mathews is currently the manager of a fully-professional club in a fully-professional league. (Cork City was one of the first clubs in Ireland to field a team of professional footballers in fact). That the CCFC players are 100% professional is clearly evident from the fact that recent issues meant they didn't get paid.[1] That in itself should be pretty self-evident of a meet on the "fully pro" criteria. But, even if it wasn't, WP:ATHLETE considers "highest amateur level" as a valid criteria also. Which Mathews also meets having managed and played with top-flight clubs in Ireland since the 1980s. It's not a fully professional league - see this article. The amateur thing doesn't count, as football is not an amateur sport (the amaeteur thing is for things like poker or chess). пﮟოьεԻ 57 19:13, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In several AfDs, including this one, it's been established that the top league in Ireland is good enough. Nfitz (talk) 17:50, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
