Defense of Rorke's Drift

[edit]

Is this painting by Alphonse-Marie Neuville as written here (and elsewhere) or by Elizabeth Butler as claimed on Elizabeth Butler and elsewhere on the 'net ? I tried to check JSTOR and found an article talking about "The Defense of Rorke's Drift, January 22nd, 1889" by Lady Butler. I'm assuming it's this one but could someone please confirm ? If there is a mistake many pages that use this pic will have to be corrected.

Nevermind, found my own answer (apparently). There are two "The Defense of Rorke's Drift" paintings, one by Butler and one by Neuville, and this one is by Neuville. The Elizabeth Butler article shows the wrong one (by Neuville), correcting now. --Alþykkr (talk) 22:41, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kytch's tribe chief and his daughter

[edit]

Kytch's tribe chief and his daughter, old engraved portraits (southern Sudan region). Created by Neuville, published on Le Tour du Monde, Paris, 1867. Only other reference I've found for Kytches is Mark Twain, From Roughing It, 1872: "... actually inferior in some respects to the Kytches of Africa.—Roughing It by Mark TwainPawyilee (talk) 05:48, 1 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Vital date discrepancies

[edit]
"Alphonse de Neuville (31 May 1835 – 18 May 1885)"

We need sources. French Wikipedia gives 1836-05-31 and 1885-05-19. --P64 (talk) 21:45, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
